Syracuse, NY

Landmark Theatre
Sunday, December 5, 2021

We've previously played lots of cities in NY (Elmira, Binghamton, Ithica, Utica, Albany, Schenectady, Buffalo) but never Syracuse, and didn't get to spend more than a few hours there anyway. But it was a great crowd and a beautiful, if not ridiculously ornate, theatre.

The theater is listed on the United States Park Service National Register of Historical Places. It opened on February 18, 1928 and was advertised as "the last word in theatrical ornateness and luxuriousness." I'd say that's an understatement...and you'll probably agree once you see the pictures. It seats 2,800. It was very nice to look out on as I was doing my thing on stage.

First here are shots JUST FROM THE LOBBY --

Okay -- now here's the theater --

This isn't the main chandelier -- this is simply the one that is underneath the balcony; so if you're sitting on the main floor, you'd walk in and this would be right there; if you were up front, you'd go further and see the main chandelier --

This is the grand chandelier --

We've been very lucky as far as weather goes; what would normally be a terribly cold set of cities has been remarkably calm (still in the 30s and 40s, but relatively sunny). That is pretty much over for the time being. On our way from Providence to Syracuse, we stopped in Schenectady (I picked our stop); a city we've been to several times before with the show. It's a great little town and one of my favorite stops ever. We were originally scheduled to play Schenectady this year, but for whatever reason, it got removed from our calendar. Anyway, it's COLD.

Syracuse was also very cold; but we were only there a few hours. After the show I did walk to a place called Dinosaur BBQ (I'd previously gone to one of those in Buffalo, NY), and that was fun. Cold, but fun. I wish I could have had more time in Syracuse. Though we're all glad to be out of there. I'll talk more about that in the next blog.

Back to Massachusetts again!
